I was very fortunate to have completed a short study course in Aboriginal Lifestyles & History at Applecross TAFE with my Lecturer, Author & Historian, Dr Neville Green, B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed., Ph.D. (University of Western Australia) and Ph.D. (Murdoch University)
Dr. Neville Green is author, co-author, and editor of eight books.
I think he had completed his first book about the people in the South West of Western Australia. Neville had some wonderful stories about his time as a teacher in very remote country in the North West at Warburton Mission and I learnt a lot from him, not only about Aboriginal Lifestyles & History, but about Aboriginal artefacts.

I gained a distinction in Geology & Mineral Prospecting at Carine TAFE .
I have prospected, with some success, for Silver, Gold, Lead, Copper & Zinc in the Windimurra Gabro, Emeralds in the Yalgoo Goldfields, Zircons in the Northern Territory, Opal in South Australia and Corundum gems in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia.

I am the discoverer of Rubies and other Corundum varieties (Some approaching gem quality) together with rare Chrysoberyl, in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia and I was the founder of Tracmin Mineral Exploration.

The Argyle Diamond Mine in the rugged and beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia, is the world's primary source of rare pink diamonds. To put the true rarity of these special ‘pink’ diamonds into perspective, of every million carats of rough diamonds produced at the mine, a mere one carat is suitable for sale by tender. Rio Tinto operates a stand-alone pink diamond business to sell and market loose polished pink diamonds from the Argyle mine.

I worked on North Rankin Gas Platform
I worked for 6 months (Fly in & Out by helicopter 2 weeks on 2 weeks off) as a Roustabout on the Offshore Gas drilling rig -North Rankin 'A'. From the deck of the construction barge 'Heerema Thor' I witnessed the first landing of a chopper on North Rankin 'A' Gas platform.

Commissioned in 1984, North Rankin 'A' was the then largest gas production platform in the world, capable of producing 1,815 million cubic feet (51,400,000 m³) of gas per day and up to 47,400 barrels per day (7,540 m3/d) of condensate. Modifications have increased the facilities capacity by 50% and it remains one of the world's largest gas platforms. It is located 135 km north-west of Karratha and can accommodate more than 120 people. It services 25 production wells in the North Rankin and Perseus fields.

I have seen this photo described as 'NewRecruits doing SitUps 1967-1968 but I was there and that is incorrect'. It was 1966 when we were part way through our 20 mile hike and we put our feet up on the fence while we had a 'smoko' and waited for our morning cup of tea, coffee or milo but could never tell what it was and I suggested that the kitchen just topped it up each day with whatever they had left over from yesterday! I had no idea that I would finish up in Catering Corps and in a couple of months would be making a brew for troops in South Australia. |

Just prior to my conscription into the Army, after a five year Apprenticeship, I qualified as a Master hairdresser. In the army I had a very lucrative sideline, drove an expensive car and lived by the beach in Henley, South Australia.

With my hairdressing as a sideline, I made a small fortune. No living in camp for me (although as a cook, I did get most of my meals for free) and I rented a house on the beach at Henley & drove an expensive Peugeot 404.. |
I was told by my Sergeant that the RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) was a huge Peugeot fan and when he saw mine parked next to his older model Peugeot he asked who owned it and was furious when he was told it belonged to the cook! (How could a lowly private, a Nasho! have a better car than his. Grrrrr!)
